Laptop Computers

Laptop computers are portable computers that are popular with people who want to use a computer wherever they go.

Laptops are now sophisticated computers with features such as integrated cameras, microphones and speakers. They can be easily connected to the internet. Your laptop can become a mobile office for your work, a classroom for your study or a playground for your games!

Laptops tend not to be that easy to upgrade. I would always recommend that you purchase a laptop that is powerful enough to do what you want, even if you don't plan to use all that power at first!
Some upgrades simply plug into the laptop and these can easily be added later, although it might be cheaper to buy the laptop with these upgrades already installed!

What does one need to consider when buying a laptop

What screen size do you want? It mostly depends upon what you want to do with the laptop. For example a wide screen is better for films. You may want a powerful video card for gaming or graphic design work. But the bigger screens require more powerful graphics and the laptop tends to be heavier and the demands for power means that the battery needs recharging sooner!

You need to decide if you want a built in wireless network card or a USB wireless connector that plugs into the laptop

Do you want a seperate mouse? Some people swear by the built in mouseball, others swear at it!

The warranty on a laptop is important to get right. Laptops can be dropped or mishandled. Do consider if it is worth paying for an extended warranty? You may want to get insurance cover for a laptop that may be dropped. Remember that laptops can be easily stolen!

Do you need a separate backup device? The very last thing that you want to do is to drop a laptop with six months work or the first ten chapters of your book for example, and then discover the only copies were on the laptop!! If you are on a network then you could copy data to another computer on your network. Otherwise you may need a seperate backup device.
